About CSEA-SCÉA

The Canadian Society for Education through Art, a voluntary association founded in Quebec City in 1955, is the only Canadian national organization that brings together art educators, gallery educators and others with similar interests and concerns. Membership represents all levels of education: elementary, secondary, college/university, ministries of education, art galleries/museums, and community education.

The benefits of membership bring you regular publications, provide you with a range of professional opportunities and resources and link you with a world wide network of art educators through partnerships with provincial, American (NAEA, USSEA) and International (INSEA) art education organizations.

CSEA is the national association for art education in Canada.

CSEA is a registered charity. Canadian members' personal fees and financial donations are tax deductible.

CSEA members are dedicated to:

  • the advancement of art education
  • the publication of current thinking and action in art education
  • the promotion of high standards in the teaching of art

CSEA cultivates partnerships with art education organizations in each Canadian province as well as the American National Art Education Association (NAEA).

CSEA maintains contact with art organizations in other countries through affiliation with the International Society for Education through Art (INSEA) and the United States Society for Education through Art (USSEA).

CSEA membership will broaden your knowledge and increase your contacts in the field of art education. Our membership is wide ranging and includes generalist and specialist classroom teachers, teachers of other arts subjects, university faculty, museum personnel, Education students, parents and members of the general public.

CSEA responds directly to the needs of its members by providing policies and guidelines for quality art programs. An effort is made to publish information and material covering all art education areas in order to enrich members' professional expertise.
